NEWS FLASH – Thursday, May 10, 2012 – Capt. Brodie sneaks out of the house to catch tripletail. After watching Don Luedke have so much fun catching all of those tripletail on Tuesday I decided to make a quick run to get some of those delicious fish for myself. The weather was just to beautiful to stay home, so off I went. Just me and Jack…BlackJack that is, grooving to Bob 105.9 with light northerly winds, well, catching those two hard-fighting beauties was good for the soul.

Left out after 10:30 and was back by 1:30 with two fine fish. One a 19-inch fish, and the other a thick 20-inch specimen. Had them for baked up for supper…simply delicious! All photography by Capt. Robert L. Brodie

Don Luedke from Gautier, MS called me the night before wanting to go catch some tripletail aka “blackfish”.  Well, the weather forecast looked great and so we left the D’Iberville Marina today at 8 am in search of the elusive tripletail.  What can I say…fish were everywhere, and the bite was hot. Ended up going 9 for 15 keeping 4 fish for the dinner table. Don said he may never go tripletail fishing again after having such a banner trip, but I got a funny feeling I’ll be seeing Don again after having the great sight fishing event he experienced today. Below are a few pics of some of the fish caught and or released today. Tripletail trips go for $475.

Another day of wind and tainted water from the rain and big blow the night before, and it was back to scratching up a mess of fish. As you can see these men caught a nice mess of flounders, sheepshead, black drum, and threw back undersize drum, speckled trout, flounders, and plenty of just undersize redfish. Late Notes – Had the Robie Knight group last Friday and it was an extremely slow trip. Ran offshore looking for big fish redfish, but they never showed up. Ended up running back inside and putting 25 white trout and 2 flounders in the box. Poor day but it happens from time to time. Plus ran a half-a-day trip today with the Archie Anderson out of Jacksonville, Fl and the men boxed 60 nice white trout, a flounder, black drum, and a nice sheepshead. Beautiful morning, great clients, and a fast morning bite…it’s all good!

I want to thank you very much for our fishing trip last Saturday. We fished  hard in tough conditions but is was worth every minute we were on the water. I still cannot believe how you could fish off the bow platform without losing your balance.

You are real professional and anyone can learn a lot from you on how catch fish. Tonight we took the redfish, 2 large flounder and the black drum to my favorite Cajun restaurant (BOUDREAUXS CAFE ACADIANA) and they cooked our fish and they were delicious.  I am ready to go on another trip with you. I also want to mention we found a great restaurant in Biloxi as we leaving Sunday.We had the best PO BOYS I have every eaten at the OLE BILOXI SCHOONER just up from the Beau Rivage.

Decided to target flounders for the last two days, and long time client John Noel from Jackson, MS had a great time hauling them in. Bumping live bull minnows slowly along the bottom delivered the flatfish fun. It’s always great fun when John and I fish, and he makes killer sandwiches too. John has been fishing aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS since 2007…the year I started the guide service, and our fishing adventures has been many. Many thanks John!

FISHING NOTE – “BIG MACK ATTACK!” – Last Monday we hammered the Spanish mackerel out at the barrier islands, and there were acres of the speedy and tasty macks. Although we easily limited out with our 30 Spanish, I have since pre-rigged up spoons and jigs for the next encounter. Simply trolling jigs and spoons behind the boat makes for fun mackerel fishing. This is great fun when these Spanish are in the area!

TOOK A BREAK FROM WORK (FISHING FOR HIRE) FOR FAMILY FISHING WITH PARENTS AND GRANDDAUGHTER

Today was a very special day for me, my granddaughter Olivia Clark, and my parents. Olivia was introduced to fishing shellcracker perch on beds, and the action was fast and furious for my beautiful fish catching granddaughter. It was a gorgeous morning to be on south Mississippi’s coastal rivers, and the shellcracker bite was on fire. We located two separate beds of fish, and when we were through 70 shellcrackers and 7 stumpknocker perch graced our ice chest. No one knows the Biloxi River and Tchoutacabouffa Rivers better than my parents, and are experts at catching crappie, bluegills, and shellcrackers with having fished these river systems religiously for nearly 50 years.
