Duck Hunting Report – (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) January 12, 13, and 14

Duck Hunting Report – (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) January 12, 13, and 14
My son-in-law Van Clark and I had the pleasure to hunt with Bob Lewis and his son Ben for the last 3 days. Had a lot of slow periods with sunny skies, yet we managed to stick it out and our patience resulted in 18 redheads (12 drakes), 1 drake bufflehead, and 2 bluebills (1 nice drake). Bob and Ben were blessed with being able to witness two large flocks of redheads rain into the decoy spread. According to these well-seasoned duck hunters this was some of the best and interesting hunts they have experienced. As for trophy mounts, Bob and Ben had plenty of birds to choose from, and can now grace their walls with these crimson head beauties. Congrats to Bob and Ben…both good sports and great shots!

Duck Hunting Report – Friday, December 29, 2006

Made a hunt today under windy conditions and partly cloudy skies. Rob Langlinais accompanied me on this trip and we managed to limit out early with redheads and bluebills. Final tally: 4 redheads (3 drakes), 4 scaups a.k.a. bluebills (1 drake greater scaup), and a shoveler a.k.a spoonbill. Weather was warm, and a few mosquitoes flew about, but the stiff winds made a few birds fly. This was an inside hunt out of the marsh. Hopefully a blast of cold weather will pick things up here along the Mississippi coastline.

Duck Hunting Report – Saturday, December 23, 2006

Duck Hunting Report – (Saturday), December 23, 2006
Got a late start today, however, my son-in-law Van Clark and I managed to get set up well out into the Mississippi Sound after daybreak. With a stiff northerly wind at our backs, we were given ample opportunities to shoot a mess of ducks. Plenty of ducks were on the move migrating along the wind churned Mississippi Sound, and 3 big redheads (2 were gorgeous drakes) and 3 buffleheads (1 drake) made up our bag of divers. Although it was a bright sunny day, the winds kept ducks on the move enabling Van and I to enjoy a wonderful pre-Christmas diving duck hunt in southern Mississippi. Oh yeah…we hunted out of my19-foot G3 Jonboat with practically no cover except for a couple of bare pine saplings, and still shot ducks. Hey, enjoy the holidays and keep it safe out there! The later part of next week looks good for a guided diving duck trip!
