Hot Fishing In Louisiana Marsh

With calm seas took the flat bottom 19-foot G3 Jonboat to the marsh today, and happened upon a school of bull redfish 30-yards wide and 150-yards long. What an incredible sight with hundreds and hundreds of reds wreaking havoc on silverside minnows that were spawning in the shallow grass beds. For hours on end the big mature redfish churned up the grass and muddy bottom as they dined on the silversides. All Ben Benoit, Rob Langlinais, and I had to do was pick these bruisers off the edge of the massive school. Top-water plugs like Yo-Zuri 3D Poppers and MirrOlure Top Dogs, gold spoons, and soft-plastics like Cocahoes and Mr. Twister Finshad fished under Paradise Popper X-Treme and Cajun Thunder clacking corks all led to long battles with huge and powerful reds. Our 12-pound-test Yo-Zuri Hybrid line, Shimano Spinning Reels, and St. Croix Triumph Spinning Rods were pushed to the limit by the large fish and thick grass. Bottom line, we enjoyed great light tackle fun catching the 15 to 30-pound bruisers until our arms ached. Read the rest of this entry »

Southern kingfish, a member of the whiting family. Read the rest of this entry »

Fishing Report-Thursday, April 7, 2007
Took out the Paul Manchester group today, and under unseasonable cold weather conditions the group still managed to catch a mess of white trout and ground mullet. Matter a fact, with stiff northwest winds blowing 20 to 25-knots the three teenage boys on the boat (Justin Barna, Brando Barna, and Dylan Manchester) fished persistently, and managed to put over 30 white trout and ground mullet in the box. The group also landed a couple of small sharks and stingrays that were promptly released unharmed. Read the rest of this entry »
