Mississippi Fishing Report – Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Brian Cooper, Rick Plemmons, David Milsaps, and Robert Gibson all from Farm Bureau Insurance. Although the easterly winds blew relentlessly all day long, these 4 anglers from North Carolina fished hard boating 20 or so white trout and ground mullet, including a couple of really big specimens. Live menhaden caught in the small-meshed brill net fooled those big yellow-mouth white trout. Soaking baits on the bottom also resulted in some big gafftopsail catfish and stingrays, barbed and dangerous specimens, but great fighters on light tackle. The large yellow-mouth white trout pulled out of the deep channels of the Back Bay of Biloxi were extremely beautiful sporting their silvery scales and bright yellow fins and mouth. Mr. Gibson landed the largest white trout that added to the friendly fishing competition among the group. Before all this wind fishing had been great, but hopefully these strong winds will die off letting anglers get back to the open water reefs. Fish are there is the weather cooperates!

Bull Reds & Specks Deliver Great Louisiana Marsh Action

Today my fishing guests were Brad Huffman, Josh Joachim, and Jeff McAllister, and this crew was blessed with another excellent day of fishing the Louisiana marsh. Once again bull redfish and fat specks cooperated for a great day on the water. Ended up with 50 or so of the big specks, and 10 drag stripping redfish. Winds died down leaving the bait and fish filled coves calm, thus making it easy to spot “slicks” and striking fish. Soft-plastics fished under Cajun Thunder and Paradise X-Treme corks were the ticket to success. Baits in a chartreuse hue seemed to work best in the somewhat murky waters. The “bird” action is picking up too, and that style of sight fishing action should increase each day. It all looks good in this area, and it would be wise to book a trip now. Looks like some good weather throughout the week.

Regards,

Capt. Robert L. Brodie
