Hot Inshore Bottom Fishing Continues & Another Tripletail Bites The Dust!

Today I had the pleasure to once again fish with a fine group of gentlemen from the Farm Bureau (Brian Cooper, Robert Gibson, Steve Brison, and Rick Clemson), and on a breezy day we easily made our way out to the Bellefontaine Reef in the new 2170 Blazer Bay. Once positioned in the precise spot a hot bite ensued. Armed with 7-foot “Triumph” St. Croix spinning rods and Shimano spinning reels the men enjoyed a hot bite of inshore bottom fishing, and got into a rhythm of hauling in delicious sand sea trout a.k.a. “white trout” and southern kingfish a.k.a. “ground mullet.

The bite was good, but sporadic at times, yet the men got into the fun of that initial hook setting required to land a bunch of these fish. Our bait for the day was fresh dead shrimp form David’s Fishing Camp in D’Iberville, MS, and the numerous croakers the gentlemen caught were turned into enticing cut bait. A fine speckled trout fell for a live shrimp too, and before we left the reef 90 of the delicious white trout and ground mullet were milling about in the live well.

To put the icing on the cake another fine tripletail a.k.a. “blackfish” of the early season was spotted and landed. The fish was holding tight under a crab trap cork, but a live shrimp drifted pass its nose was just too tempting to the odd looking, yet delicious creature. Before we made it back to the dock a quick stop at the CSX Train Bridge resulted in the hook up of another huge black drum, but after a 10-minute battle on 10-pound-test from the moving boat, well, he simply decided to swim to the bridge and cut off the line.  To date, we’ve landed “2″ 50-pound fish, “1″ 45-pounder, and a couple of 20-pound class fish in that area on 10-pound-test Yo-Zuri Hybrid fluorocarbon line.  Tremendous light tackle challenges!

What can I say, another wonderful day of fishing in south Mississippi…our back yard paradise!

Rembeber…life is short…let’s fish!

Oh yeah, don’t forget to book a trip to the Louisiana marsh for specks and reds. I am fully licensed for both Louisiana and Mississippi waters.

Back Bay of Biloxi Delivers Huge Black Drum Today!

Ran an afternoon trip today, and the southwest winds were relentless once again. For the love of God when will these cool fronts stop coming down? Can’t say, but you don’t catch fish sitting at home on the couch. The Mississippi Sound was churned up to a muddy mess, and heavy seas were hard to get out of. However, my clients Rickey Wilder, Bobby Zangla, and Mic Baxter from the Louisiana Land Bank boarded TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and away we went in the new 2170 Blazer Bay.

Tried the Ocean Springs Oyster Reef, and there they caught plenty of the hard fighting big gafftopsail catfish, a few southern kingfish a.k.a. “ground mullet’, and a nice flounder. Have to admit it was rough, water the color of chocolate milk, extremely tough fishing. But to add excitement to the slow bite, Bobby hooked into a huge fish, and 30-minutes later a 50-pound black drum was landed and released.  A very strong and healthy looking fish!

Ran back into the Back Bay of Biloxi and caught a couple of small black drum, and Mic ended up the day by hooking into and landing a fine 25-pound black drum at the CSX Train Bridge. Another great fight on the St. Croix rods, and Shimano reels spooled with 10-pound-test Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Our bait of the day was fresh dead shrimp from David’s Fishing Camp in D’Iberville, MS located just east of C.F Gollot Seafood.

Our leaders were composed of 25-pound-test Seaguar fluorocarbon, and hooks used were the small but strong 1/0 Gamakatsu Octopus. A tough few hours on the water, but the big fish saved the day, and made for some great photography.  Hey, it’s better than sitting home watching TV or playing video games. And like I always say…Life is short…let’s fish! And anyway these were three extremely pleasant gentlemen to spent time with on the water, and that’s what’s it’s all about.

Bird Is The Word In Louisiana Marsh!

Took a run down to the Louisiana marsh on Sunday with Ben Benoit and Paul Manchester, both of Biloxi, MS. Had been a while since I had ran to the marsh, and the reports trickling in had been good.  Once there it was evident the bird fishing had turned and from Grand Pass where we entered the marsh all the way south to Brush Island flocks of gulls were everywhere.

Under the birds the speckled trout were extremely thick, however the majority were throwbacks, but mixed in were some nice fish. On this day we boxed approximately 30 nice specks and a beautiful bull redfish, and Paul was proud of his red, the biggest fish he had ever caught. If the wind ever calms down to regular summer patterns the fishing will be fantastic in this sector of Cajun territory.

Today the majority of our fish were caught using popping corks with soft-plastics suspended below. Also, a couple of big specks were caught on Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows, the lipped floating model. Once again the winds blew harder and harder as the day went along, and we’re still waiting on some of those perfect fishing weather days. Bottom line, a nice catch of specks and red, made for another beautiful day on the water south of Mississippi’s mainland in the Louisiana marsh. By the way, for these trips I leave out of the Pass Christian Small Craft Harbor, and make the 11-mile run across the Mississippi Sound in my new 2170 Blazer Bay,

I am fully licensed to run these trips, but you’ll need to call in with a credit card and purchase a permit to fish these waters. The permit runs around $8, and can be done quickly and easily over the phone. So come join me for a fun day of fishing in either Mississippi or Louisiana waters. Here at TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS we’re always ready to catch some fish, and work hard to do so.
