I forgot to post a few pics of my good friend Art Mullen and his daughter Melanie down from Fort Mill, SC to fish the LA marsh last week. We had a great time catching specks and white trout under the birds using popping corks and soft-plastics. With Art we don’t need to catch fish to have a great time, fish are just a bonus! We also had Paul Farnsworth from Shallow Water Angler shooting some footage of the fishing action under the birds. Life is good in south Mississippi.

My last fishing trip into the Mississippi Sound was a lot of fun. Two big speckled trout, a large jack crevalle, and 50 fat ground mullet and white trout made for a fun outing. My clients were Ron Pedersen, Steve Story, and Skip Walters, all down for a family reunion.

These guys were a blast to fish with, and will be back with me next year. By the way, plenty of birds are working the Mississippi Sound now, just like down in the Louisiana marsh. Last week my friends and I caught caught ladyfish, bluefish, specks, and white trout under the hovering gulls, and that’s a good sigh for our coastal waters.

Also, I am already receiving plenty of calls and e-mails concerning our professionally guided duck hunting charters. Looks like many people that couldn’t make it last year are gearing up for a trip this season, These trips are going for $450 a day (1 to 2 hunters), and that includes an assistant guide to help with the blind and 100 plus decoys. A “cast and blast” can be arranged too, hunting in the morning and fishing in the afternoon. Now that’s having fun!

Here are a few pics from past hunts to get you fired up. By the way, our specialty is trophy redheads, and few people realize we have good numbers of these crimson-headed birds in south Mississippi.

Today was a great day to be on the water, and Jeff Weakley of Shallow Water Angler was in town to film a number of segments for their television program. Decided to take Jeff to Ship Island, and the call paid off with a fine catch consisting of a big mangrove snapper, plenty of bluefish and ladyfish, a small cobia, and 7 hefty spotted sea trout.

This was great fun, and they even captured us on film being chased out of the water by a pack of bull sharks hunting down our fish being reeled in. What fun and excitement! I’ll love to see that when the editing is completed in a few months.

By the way, if you would like to wade fish the barrier islands for yourself please give me a call and it can be set up. A magnificent place to spend the day fishing!
