BILOXI MISSISSIPPI CHARTER BOAT FISHING – Barrier Islands Deliver Nice Redfish, Florida Pompano, & Whiting

Today one of my regular customers was aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and he was going solo. Luckily for Don Thomason, well, he had the fish catching duties all to himself, and a good run of nice barrier island redfish had Don’s arms aching. We were fishing fresh dead shrimp, and these redfish fought extremely hard in the surf’s murky waters.

Really, it felt like they were on steroids stripping drag, making numerous hard runs, and refusing to come to the net. But it made the outing exciting for us, and a couple of nice Florida pompano and gulf kingfish added to the excitement.

A regular client aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, Don Thomason of Alabama poses with a fine Florida pompano he caught at Mississippi’s barrier islands. This fine specimen will be stuffed with crab meat dressing, and then bake up for a meal fit for a king. Florida pompano are one of the finest eating fish on the planet.

A fine gulf kingfish caught by Don Thomason of Alabama while fishing aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS. Often called “whiting”, gulf kingfish look somewhat similar to the southern kingfish that we catch inshore, but this species prefers the clear water and sand bottoms of the barrier islands. An excellent eating fish!

Words From Don

Great “Post”! Thank you for the kind comments.

We’ll completely blow them away when you post the June results.

Another excellent day with TEAMBRODIE.

Would like the full-catch, pompano, and redfish pictures if you have them.

Again, Thanks. See you in about a month or so.

Don Thomason

Winds died down a bit in the early morning, thus enabling us to reach the barrier islands in one piece. However, the water was still quite murky making sight fishing almost impossible. But the fresh dead shrimp saved the day, a bait that everything in the gulf loves to dine on.

Also, the southeast wind has blown in plenty of sargassum grass, Portuguese Man O Wars and such, and there should be plenty of tripletail coming into the Mississippi Sound with all of the floating grass. We cut the trip early since Don had a fine catch of fish, and he followed me home where I cleaned up his fish and got him back on the road early. As usual, Don and I have a lot of fun fishing together, and he brought me a bucket full of lead to make my own sinkers.

He promised me the lead on the last trip, and he didn’t forget.  I am booked on Saturday, and will report back then.

Don, thank’s for booking me at the last minute, it was a good call on your part!

Regards,

Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS

BILOXI MISSISSIPPI CHARTER BOAT FISHING – Mississippi’s Barrier Isles Deliver a Diverse Catch!

You name it, we caught a little bit of it all today!  Redfish, sheepshead, speckled trout, black drum, bluefish, and Florida pompano made for a fun outing in the isle’s shallows. Once again got a break in the weather and it was back to the gorgeous barrier islands of south Mississippi.

It still wasn’t calm by any stretch of the imagination, but bearable with enough fishing excitement to make the run worth its salt.

Nick chartered me in March, and we hammered all sorts of fish in the Back Bay of Biloxi, but today he wanted to experience the barrier islands, and he and Robert got a great sampling of the diverse fishery these  islands provide.

Although conditions weren’t optimal, well, this duo fished hard and went home with an ice chest full of fresh fish fillets. As usual, Nick followed me back to my house where we cleaned the fish. Nick is going to toss the bluefish in the smoker, and the redfish fillets with scales on will be tossed on the grill with the scales side down.

This was a fun trip with some really nice guys, and they fished hard, relentless, to bring home this fine catch of fish. Water conditions are still far from ideal, but specks, pompano, and redfish are already out there for the taking. We wade fished for a short while too, and that’s where the big speck came from. Our final tally included: 8 beautiful redfish, 1 4-pound speck, 1 Florida pompano, 3 sheepshead, 2 black drum, and 2 bluefish.

I know this weather has been less than favorable for fishing, and many of you are waiting for the summer pattern to set in before booking a trip, but as you can see I’ve still been bring in fish despite the poor conditions. So if you’re hard core let’s go fishing! And hey, if we can’t make it to the isles we can still slam the white trout and ground mullet on the near by oyster and rubble reefs. No size or number limits, and delicious on the dinner table.

Regards,

Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS

BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI CHARTER BOAT FISHING – REDFISH & POMPANO AT BARRIER ISLANDS

IMG_2792

Eddie Jones of McHenry, MS, and Ben Benoit of Biloxi, MS with redfish and Florida pompano, some of their catch made aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

Finally made it to the barrier islands, and although it wasn’t calm by any stretch of the imagination we boated 4 beautiful big redfish, as well as 3 really nice Florida pompano, bluefish, and a small cobia.

Caught the pompano in the blind, and no fish were spotted jumping in our wakes so far. However, it was a really good feeling to put the first pompano of the year aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS. Saw a good number of reds scattered about, and on light tackle, well, they are simply a blast to fight in those clear shallows.

Also, made a quick stop at the near shore oyster reefs, and quickly put 25 white trout in the box on the way back to the D’Iberville Marina. Hey, it’s all good and just getting better. Looks like we may be getting live shrimp back soon too.

I am booked Saturday, Sunday is open, and I am booked Monday and Tuesday. So what are you waiting for…let’s go fishing!

Regards,
