BILOXI MISSISSIPPI CHARTER BOAT FISHING – Barrier Islands Deliver Nice Redfish, Florida Pompano, & Whiting
Today one of my regular customers was aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and he was going solo. Luckily for Don Thomason, well, he had the fish catching duties all to himself, and a good run of nice barrier island redfish had Don’s arms aching. We were fishing fresh dead shrimp, and these redfish fought extremely hard in the surf’s murky waters.
Really, it felt like they were on steroids stripping drag, making numerous hard runs, and refusing to come to the net. But it made the outing exciting for us, and a couple of nice Florida pompano and gulf kingfish added to the excitement.

This fine specimen will be stuffed with crab meat dressing, and then bake up for a meal fit for a king. Florida pompano are one of the finest eating fish on the planet.

A fine gulf kingfish caught by Don Thomason of Alabama while fishing aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS. Often called “whiting”, gulf kingfish look somewhat similar to the southern kingfish that we catch inshore, but this species prefers the clear water and sand bottoms of the barrier islands. An excellent eating fish!
Words From Don
Great “Post”! Thank you for the kind comments.
We’ll completely blow them away when you post the June results.
Another excellent day with TEAMBRODIE.
Would like the full-catch, pompano, and redfish pictures if you have them.
Again, Thanks. See you in about a month or so.
Don Thomason
Winds died down a bit in the early morning, thus enabling us to reach the barrier islands in one piece. However, the water was still quite murky making sight fishing almost impossible. But the fresh dead shrimp saved the day, a bait that everything in the gulf loves to dine on.
Also, the southeast wind has blown in plenty of sargassum grass, Portuguese Man O Wars and such, and there should be plenty of tripletail coming into the Mississippi Sound with all of the floating grass. We cut the trip early since Don had a fine catch of fish, and he followed me home where I cleaned up his fish and got him back on the road early. As usual, Don and I have a lot of fun fishing together, and he brought me a bucket full of lead to make my own sinkers.
He promised me the lead on the last trip, and he didn’t forget. I am booked on Saturday, and will report back then.
Don, thank’s for booking me at the last minute, it was a good call on your part!
Regards,
Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
