Now back to Capt. Brodie’s latest duck hunting and fishing reports…
Today I had the same crew aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS as last Friday, and the diving duck hunting was even better than Friday’s fast paced action. It seemed Leonard Vergunst, Rob Langlinais, and myself had the Mississippi Sound to ourselves, and the ducks were everywhere.
Conditions today were almost identical to last Friday’s hunt with temperatures in the 40’s, cloudy skies, a tide just starting to rise, and the wind blowing out of the northeast at 15 to 20 knots. Ideal diving duck hunting conditions!
ABOVE: 12-16-09 With our 3-man limits consisting of 5 redheads, 1 canvasback, 6 bluebills, and 6 buffleheads out of the way, well, it was time to take some photos of ducks coming into the decoys. Like pictured above, flocks of lesser scaups a.k.a. “bluebills” swarmed the decoys all morning long. Want a piece of this action? Well, simply e-mail Capt. The hunting was so good that we ended up with the “Grand Slam” on diving ducks today. Included in the diverse kill was 1 canvasback, 5 redheads, 6 lesser scaups a.k.a. “bluebills”, and 6 buffleheads. We were limited out by 9:30, and the last two ducks of the hunt downed were a redhead and a canvasback. Hey, it could not have been scripted any better.

Oh but the hunt got better because Rob bagged his first banded duck, a big hen redhead. By the time we had all of our 16 ducks the sun had finally come out, but the buffleheads and bluebills were still piling into the decoys, even while we were picking them up. Just another magnificent day of duck hunting here in south Mississippi aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS.

Dubbed “king of the divers”, a canvasback is one of the most glorified species of divers, noted for their size and table fare. Photo by Capt. Robert L. Brodie

Managed to get some neat pictures today too, hope you enjoy them, and may inspire you to book a diving duck hunting trip aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, and create some diving duck hunting memories of your own. Remember, you have till the end of January to book a trip, but as you can see the birds are down in good numbers right now.
Regards and many thanks to all,
Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
