NOW BACK TO CAPT. BRODIE’S LATEST FISHING REPORT…

For a month now we’ve been riding the wave of big redfish that has been dominating the bite out at the barrier islands. The sights have been incredible, and I, and I am sure my clients too have been seeing schools of big redfish in their sleep. Will continue to fish them as long as the hot run continues, but there will be other species on the way.

White trout and ground mullet are coming in, and in a week or two should be in our inshore waters in big numbers. Caught 110 at Ship Island a few days ago, and left them biting like mad. Soon tripletail and the highly-prized Florida will be in too, and the isle’s flats look prettier than ever for the hard fighting and tasty pompano.

Caught a few flounders too, and they are coming into some of the choice spots already. Speckled trout are moving about the outside beach, and will be at the barrier islands in good numbers also. Look for Spanish mackerel, sharks, and cobia to be working their way to the barrier islands anytime now.

BIG REDFISH ON LIGHT TACKLE RULE! - While fishing aboard TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, Don Sipp caught and released numerous big redfish like this very spotted specimen - Photo by Capt. Robert L. Brodie

ABOVE: Don Sipp from Ocean Springs, MS is no stranger to TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS, matter a fact, Don is a regular client aboard the 2170 Blazer Bay, and always seems to catch plenty of fish. A couple of his friends couldn’t make it on this trip for one reason or another, and so it was just Don and I having to battle the big brute redfish. Now we’re not rubbing it in on the other guys, but it was slick as glass, the water was gin clear, and massive schools of big bull redfish were swarming the shallow flats. The visual aspect of this style of fishing is breathtaking watching hundreds of big reds swimming by in the shallows, and casting your artificial bit into the darks masses is, well, YOU JUST SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE GUYS! The big redfish Don is pictured with had in excess of 40 spots on each side, and the very spotted specimen was released to fight another day. Want in on some of this action? Well, simply call Capt. Robert L. Brodie at (228) 697-7707 or shoot him an e-mail at email hidden; JavaScript is required and create your own fishing memories.

ABOVE: The fishing for the big reds was so good today that even Capt. Brodie had the opportunity to catch and release a big bull. A few quick pics and the hefty specimen was safely released to fight another day. On 10-pound-test spinning tackle (St. Croix Rods & Shimano Spinning Reels) these large fish are quite a challenge, yet we seldom loose a fish using Yo-Zuri Hybrid line, and 30-pound-test Seaguar fluorocarbon leader material. Look at the water in this picture…barely a breath of wind! Photo by Don Sipp
